Papero Terms of Service

Account Terms

1.You must be 13 years or older to use the Site or Service. Users under 18 must have parental permission and supervision.

2.You must provide a valid email address and any other information requested in order to create an account to use and access the Service ("Account").

3.You are responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of your Account and password. LoadFocus LTD shall not be liable for any loss or damage from your failure to comply with this security obligation.

4.You are responsible for all content posted and activity that occurs under your Account (even when content is posted by others who have accounts under your Account).

5.You may not use the Site or Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose. You must not, in the use of the Site or Service, violate any applicable laws in your jurisdiction (including but not limited to copyright laws and academic integrity policies).

6.You may not use automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) to access the Service, reverse engineer the software, or circumvent security features.

Billing Terms

1.Papero has two plans. Free needs no payment card. Plus is paid by card through Stripe, monthly or yearly.

2.Plus is billed in advance for each month or year and renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it as described under "Cancellation and Termination" below. Prices include VAT where it applies. Apart from the 14-day money-back guarantee below, payments are non-refundable except as the law provides: there are no refunds or credits for partial periods, unused time or a change of plan.

3.14-day money-back guarantee: if Plus is not right for you, write to contact@papero.ai within 14 days of buying Plus (your first Plus payment, or a switch from monthly to yearly) and we will refund that payment in full and end Plus. Renewals are not covered. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, this is also how you use your legal right to cancel within 14 days; it does not affect your other statutory rights.

4.Prices are shown and charged with VAT included where it applies. Our invoices show the VAT contained in the price.

5.Moving from monthly to yearly Plus takes effect at once: you are charged the yearly price, less a credit for the unused part of your current month. Moving from yearly to monthly takes effect at the end of the year you have paid for.

6.If you move from Plus to Free, or your Plus subscription ends, your documents and sources stay in your Account. The Free limits apply from the end of the paid period: the reference list is shown blurred again, and in-text citations keep working.

Cancellation and Termination

1.You can cancel Plus at any time from the Account settings in your dashboard. Outside the 14-day money-back guarantee (Billing Terms, point 3), an email asking us to cancel is not a cancellation, but we will help if you write to contact@papero.ai.

2.Cancelling Plus does not delete your documents: your Account moves to the Free plan at the end of the paid period. Deleting your Account ends Plus at once, with no refund for the unused part of the period unless you are within the 14-day money-back guarantee (Billing Terms, point 3), and deletes its documents and their versions, its sources and collections, its usage records and the other data listed under "Our retention of your information" in our Privacy Policy; copies may stay in our backups for up to 30 days before they are deleted.

3.When you cancel Plus, the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you are not charged again. No refunds are given for the unused part of a period, except as set out in Billing Terms or as required by law. If a payment is overdue, Plus ends as soon as you cancel.

4.LoadFocus LTD may terminate your Account with immediate effect and without notice to you if you materially breach the Terms of Service, violate academic integrity policies, or fraudulently use or misuse the Site or Service. In the event of such termination you will not receive a refund.

5.LoadFocus LTD, in its sole discretion, has the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse any and all current or future use of the Service, or any other LoadFocus LTD service, for any reason at any time. Such termination of the Service will result in the deactivation or deletion of your Account or your access to your Account, and the forfeiture and relinquishment of all content in your Account. LoadFocus LTD reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time.

Modifications to the Service and Prices

1.LoadFocus LTD reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Site or Service (or any part thereof) with or without notice.

2.Prices of all Services, including but not limited to monthly and yearly subscription plan fees to the Service, are subject to change upon 30 days notice from us. Such notice may be provided at any time by posting the changes to the Site (https://www.papero.ai/). Your continued use of the Service thereafter constitutes your agreement to such price change.

3.LoadFocus LTD shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, price change, suspension or discontinuance of the Site or Service.

Copyright and Content Ownership

1.All content or materials posted or provided by you must comply with UK copyright law, academic integrity standards, and any other applicable laws.

2.We claim no intellectual property rights over content or material you provided or uploaded by you to the Site or in connection with the Service. The content or materials you provide or upload remain yours and you confirm you own all rights in any content or materials uploaded or provided by you or otherwise have the full power, license, consents and authority in the content or materials you upload to the Site or provide in connection with the Service. Your documents are private to your Account.

3.You agree that the materials or content uploaded or provided by you do not infringe upon any third party rights, do not constitute plagiarism or academic dishonesty, and are in no way unlawful for you to upload or provide and you further agree to indemnify and hold harmless LoadFocus LTD, its officers, directors, employees and agents against any and all third party claims, loss or damage arising out of the content or materials uploaded or provided by you.

4.LoadFocus LTD does not pre-screen content, but LoadFocus LTD and its designee have the right (but not the obligation) in their sole discretion to refuse or remove any content that is available via the Site or Service.

5.By submitting feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service, you agree that we may use and share such feedback for any purpose without compensation to you.

7.By uploading a PDF file to your library, you confirm that you have the right to upload it. Papero keeps each file only for you and does not share it with other users. If you believe a file stored in Papero infringes your copyright, send your notice to contact@papero.ai.

8.If you share a link to a document, you are responsible for whom you share it with and for the content you share.

General Conditions

1.Your use of the Site is at your sole risk. The Site and Service are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

2.Technical support is provided by email at contact@papero.ai to users of both the Free and the Plus plan.

3.You understand that LoadFocus LTD uses third party suppliers or vendors and hosting partners to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to run the Site and Service.

4.You must not modify, adapt or hack the Site or modify another website so as to falsely imply that it is associated with the Site, Service or LoadFocus LTD.

5.You agree not to reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any portion of the Site or Service, without the express written permission by LoadFocus LTD.

6.We may, but have no obligation to, remove content and Accounts containing content that we determine in our sole discretion are unlawful, offensive, threatening, libelous, defamatory, pornographic, obscene or otherwise objectionable or violates third party's intellectual property or these Terms of Service.

7.Verbal, physical, written or other abuse (including threats of abuse or retribution) of any LoadFocus LTD customer, employee, member, agent, director or officer will result in immediate termination of your Account without any liability to LoadFocus LTD.

8.You understand that the technical processing and transmission of the Site or Service, including your content, may be transferred unencrypted and involve (a) transmissions over various networks; and (b) changes to conform and adapt to technical requirements of connecting networks or devices.

9.You must not upload, post, host, or transmit unsolicited email, short message service (SMS), or "spam" messages.

10.You must not transmit any worms or viruses or any code of a destructive nature.

11.Free and Plus include the usage limits shown on the pricing page. If your use looks automated or is far above typical use, we may slow down or pause AI features on your Account and contact you.

12.LoadFocus LTD does not warrant that (i) the Service will meet your specific requirements, (ii) the Site or Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, (iii) the results that may be obtained from the use of the Site or Service will be accurate or reliable, (iv) AI-generated content will be free from errors or suitable for academic submission without review, (v) the quality of any products, services, information, or other material purchased or obtained by you from LoadFocus LTD will meet your expectations or be fit for a particular purpose, and (vi) any errors in the Site or Service will be corrected.

13.You expressly understand and agree that LoadFocus LTD shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential loss or exemplary damages, including but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses (even if LoadFocus LTD has been advised of the possibility of such loss or damages), resulting from: (i) the use or the inability to use the Site or Service; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, data, information or services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through or from the Site; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the Site or Service; (v) reliance on AI-generated content or citations; (vi) or any other matter relating to the Site or Service. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability shall not exceed the lesser of the amount you paid in the three months prior to the claim or $144 USD.

14.The failure of LoadFocus LTD to exercise or enforce any right or provision of the Terms of Service shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. The Terms of Service constitutes the entire agreement between you and LoadFocus LTD and governs your use of the Service, superseding any prior agreements between you and LoadFocus LTD (including, but not limited to, any prior versions of the Terms of Service).

16.The Terms of Service shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of England and you and us agree the courts of England shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any claims or dispute arising out of or in connection with the Terms of Service.

AI features

1.Papero's AI features (autocomplete, rewrite, outlines, section drafts, chat, Proofread, Claims, Peer review, Tone of voice, the Citation report, chart generation and equation generation) generate text with large language models. AI output can be wrong, incomplete or biased, and it can describe sources that do not exist. Check every suggestion before you keep it.

2.Paper search, Claims and the Citation report use OpenAlex. Lookups by DOI, PMID, arXiv ID or ISBN use OpenAlex and Crossref (or DataCite, for DOIs registered there). Check that each source says what your text claims it says.

3.You are responsible for following the rules of your school, university or publisher on AI tools, including any requirement to declare that you used them. Papero can add an AI use statement to your document; edit it so that it says what you did.

4.The text an AI feature needs is sent to OpenAI, our sub-processor, to generate the answer. OpenAI does not use it to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor abuse. Our Privacy Policy has the details.

5.We do not use your documents to train AI models.

6.Each plan includes an allowance for each AI feature per day or per month, shown on the pricing page. Autocomplete counts the suggestions you accept, with a daily or monthly cap on the suggestions shown; rewrites (refinements, charts and equations included) and section drafts count the results you keep, with a daily or monthly cap on the results generated; the other AI features count each request (in chat, each answer). The monthly review allowance counts each source check, which uses no AI, and each run of Proofread, Claims, Peer review, Tone of voice and the Citation report. A use over a limit is refused until the limit resets; an unused allowance does not carry over. Each Account also has a monthly limit on the cost of its AI requests; when it is reached, AI features pause until the next month.

7.We may switch an AI feature off for everyone for a short time, for example to stop abuse or when a provider fails. When use by Free accounts reaches their share of the day's capacity, we may also pause AI features, paper search, Claims or the source check for Free accounts for the rest of that day (UTC). Such an interruption gives no right to a refund, except as required by law.

8.You own the text you write and the AI output you keep, to the extent the law allows. You must not use the AI features to produce unlawful content or content that breaks these Terms of Service.

9.You can connect Papero to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT. What the assistant receives from Papero is covered by these Terms of Service, including this section, in the same way as what you see in Papero: you are responsible for checking it and for following the rules of your school, university or publisher. A paper search made this way counts against your search allowance like any other. The assistant and its provider are not part of Papero, and their own terms and privacy policy apply to what they do. You can disconnect the app at any time under Settings, Connected apps.

10.Workflows (a literature review or a research gap analysis) are limited by plan: Free includes 3 Workflow runs in total, at Low depth only, and Plus includes 10 runs a month at every depth. Each run also counts toward your plan's monthly AI allowance.
