Use Papero from Claude or ChatGPT
Add one address as a connector and sign in with your Papero account. The assistant can then search scholarly papers, format references and read your Papero documents, without you leaving the chat.

Claude
In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Name it Papero, paste the address above and add it. Then click Connect, sign in to Papero and choose Allow.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector for the organisation first.
ChatGPT
Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, then create an app named Papero with the address above and OAuth as its authentication. Sign in to Papero when ChatGPT asks, and choose Allow.
Developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan and, in a workspace, on what its admin allows.
Claude Code
Run this command, then type /mcp in Claude Code, choose papero and sign in.

What the assistant can do with Papero
Search papers
Find scholarly works on a topic in OpenAlex, sorted by relevance, date or citations, with filters for year, citation count and preprints. Each search counts against your Papero search allowance.
Look up a paper
Give it a DOI, PMID, arXiv ID or ISBN and get the paper's details back.
Format references
Turn up to 20 identifiers into a reference list in APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago author-date, Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver, AMA 11, Nature or ACS. Nothing is saved. Formatted lists need Plus.
Read your documents
List your Papero documents and read one's text and reference list. On Free, the details of the references stay hidden, as they do in the app.

Things to ask your assistant
- Find five papers from the last three years on sleep and exam performance, each cited at least 20 times.
- Turn these three DOIs into an APA 7 reference list.
- Read my Papero document on climate migration and list the sentences that make a claim without a citation.
- How many paper searches do I have left in Papero?
Read-only, and you stay in control
- It cannot change or delete anything in Papero, and it does not run Papero's AI features.
- You sign in on Papero's own page. The assistant never receives your password or an API key.
- The assistant receives only the answers to the tools it calls, which can include the text of a document you ask it to read. What its provider does with them is covered by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
- Disconnect it at any time in the Papero app under Settings, Connected apps. Access lasts up to 90 days while the app is in use; after that you connect it again.
Before you connect
Do I need a Papero account?
Yes. The free plan works. You sign in with your Papero account when you add the connector, and the assistant only reaches your own documents.
Does the connector cost extra?
No. It comes with every Papero plan. A paper search counts against your search allowance, and formatted reference lists need Plus.
Can the assistant write into my Papero document?
No. The connector is read-only. To use something the assistant wrote, paste it into your document yourself.
How do I disconnect it?
In the Papero app, open Settings, then Connected apps, and choose Revoke next to the app. Its next request to Papero is refused.
