# Papero

> The AI writing workspace for students and researchers. Papero helps you outline, draft and rewrite your paper, finds real papers to cite as you write and formats the references for you. The argument stays yours.

Papero is open. Sign up free: https://papero.ai/signup?plan=free

## How it works

1. **Describe your paper.** Tell Papero what you are writing, pick a citation style and a structure, and get a two-level outline with a prompt for every section.
2. **Write with help.** Inline suggestions offer the next sentence as you type; select text to paraphrase, simplify, shorten, expand or make it more academic; draft a section from its prompt.
3. **Cite and export.** Search scholarly works, paste a DOI or cite from your source library, insert in-text citations, and export the document to Word.

## Features

- **Outline builder:** standard IMRaD, AI-generated headings or no headings, each section with its own prompt. When you describe a new paper, a hint says what the description still needs; Suggest headings proposes headings for a document you have already started.
- **Autocomplete:** one-sentence suggestions in your document's language; accept the whole sentence or one word at a time. Free counts 30 accepted suggestions a day (up to 100 shown), Plus 5,000 accepted a month (up to 10,000 shown).
- **Rewrite:** paraphrase, simplify, make academic, shorten, expand, fix grammar, or your own instruction.
- **Citations:** one click finds papers for the sentence you are writing; topic search in OpenAlex, DOI lookup, manual entries, several sources in one citation. Search results mark retracted papers and preprints, the cite box also lists your library and, on Plus, the sources already in the document, and "Accept and cite" finds papers for a suggestion you have just accepted.
- **Source library:** every source you have added, in one place, with search, collections and delete (a source still cited in a document stays). Import BibTeX (.bib) or RIS (.ris) files, the formats Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote and Google Scholar export, on any plan; export your sources as .bib or .ris on Plus.
- **Version history:** Papero keeps a version at most every 10 minutes while you write; save up to 20 named versions per document and restore any version. Versions are kept for up to 30 days, on Free and Plus; space for them is limited, and the oldest automatic versions go first.
- **Review:** a source check flags cited papers that are retracted, preprints, rarely cited or could not be checked, and an AI proofread suggests spelling, grammar, punctuation and clarity fixes. Each check is one review: 3 a month on Free, 50 on Plus. Finding paragraphs that may need a citation is free and runs in your browser.
- **Citation styles:** APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago author-date, Harvard and IEEE.
- **Word export:** default or double-spaced manuscript layout, title page and page numbers.
- **AI use statement:** insert a short paragraph declaring the AI help you used.
- **Private by default:** your documents are never used to train AI models.

## Plans

Free and Plus. Plus costs 12 a month or 96 a year in USD, GBP or EUR, VAT included. On Free in-text citations work in full and the reference list shows your real entries blurred (copying or exporting the document leaves it out); Plus makes it readable, copyable and exportable, adds .bib and .ris export of your sources and raises every limit. Plus has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Details: https://papero.ai/pricing

## Common questions

- **How is Papero different from ChatGPT?** Papero works inside your document: it follows your outline and section prompts, and its citations come from real scholarly records you choose, not from a model's memory.
- **Which citation styles are supported?** APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago author-date, Harvard and IEEE.
- **Can I import from Zotero or Mendeley?** Yes, through files: export a .bib or .ris file from Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote or Google Scholar and import it into your Papero library, up to 1 MB at a time. Papero does not sync with those apps.
- **Does Papero keep old versions of my documents?** Yes, for up to 30 days on Free and Plus: a version at most every 10 minutes while you write, plus up to 20 named versions per document. Restoring one keeps the text you had as a version first.
- **Are my documents private?** Yes. They are never used to train AI models. Text you send to an AI feature is processed by OpenAI, which does not use it for training.
